Jay Friedman, a UB alumnus who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication in 1986, a Master's in Higher Education Administration in 2000, and is currently working on his PhD. in Higher Education Administration, has served in a number of administrative roles in his thirty year career at the University at Buffalo.

Jay spent the first 23 years of his career as the General Manager of the Campus Catering Department and then as the Assistant Director of the Office of Special Events. In these roles he managed the logistics and execution of all catering and concessions for the 1993 World University Games and the 1998 Division I Track and Field Championships. He also managed the logistics and execution of 2003 Empire State Games, as well as the 2005 and 2006 NYS Special Olympics, which were all hosted at UB. During this same span of time Jay spent 12 years on the Board of Directors of the UB Alumni Association and served as the VP for Athletics from 1998 through 2004.

In 2009 Jay assumed the role of Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations. In this role Jay was responsible for UB's alumni programs and activities, providing creative leadership and overall managerial direction to the Office of Alumni Relations and the UB Alumni Association. His primary role was to build relationships that result in volunteer service and philanthropic support for the campus as well as initiate activities that maximize alumni outreach and engagement through alumni association communications, programs and services. He oversaw a staff of 12 and was the primary liaison for the UB Alumni Association board of directors, which comprised of 50 alumni from around the country.

In 2013 Jay assumed the role of Senior Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement. In this role Jay collaborated with Development Officers, Donor Relations and Stewardship leaders, and Alumni Relations staff to develop and execute targeted programming/creative messaging that built awareness of the impact of the University at Buffalo in the communities it serves, as well as engage and steward the donors and volunteers that support it.

Jay joined the Division of Athletics in the summer of 2016 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Engagement. In this role Jay will be tasked with building a former student athlete engagement program for the division and the university.

Jay resides in East Amherst with his Wife Karen. His daughter’s Morgan and Taylor both attend Siena College.
