Shareholders Society

An Investment in New York's Public Powerhouse

“We will unite to elevate New York's preeminent public flagship institution by fostering an environment driven by all-encompassing student-athlete excellence.”
—Allen Greene, Director of Athletics

Our Purpose

The landscape of college athletics today requires that athletic departments continuously look for ways to enhance our athletic facility infrastructure. As such, the Shareholders Society was established for the sole purpose of providing critical resources for facility improvement and new facility construction.

Shareholders Society contributors, through their commitment, are recognizing the importance of providing our coaches and student-athletes with facilities that are commensurate with a championship program. All Shareholders Society dollars are restricted to facility improvements designated as strategic priorities by our athletic director.

What Our Shareholders are Saying

  • “Cynthia and I have lived in Buffalo for over 30 years and have been connected to UB since our return from Michigan in ‘79. I owe my success in business and investments to my family and the football scholarship I received from UB in 1965. The spectacular growth at UB in the past 10 years has been unbelievable. Cynthia and I are very happy to play a small part in this growth by being a member of the Shareholders Society. We reach out to everyone in WNY to become a member of the Shareholders Society or the Blue and White Fund. UB is a world-class institution and athletics is a critical component. Go Bulls!”

Tom, BA ‘69 (4 year Letterwinner – Football) and Cynthia Murphy

  • “Having lived in Buffalo for 33 years, UB is my adopted university. I have been fortunate in my business and personal life and feel it is time to give back and help others achieve their goals. I am involved in many local service and charitable organizations and especially interested in helping build UB into “America’s next big-time college Athletics Brand.” This is critical for the growth of the institution as a whole. We will accomplish this one step at a time. Right now the goal is building the new field house. I am proud to be a small part of this effort. Go UB!”

    John Heffernan, Buffalo community member

  • “I’ve been involved with UB Athletics for many years. I’ve seen numerous changes as the program has evolved. Being able to give back to the university that has meant so much to my family and myself is rewarding. Having the support of my partners in such a transformational capital improvement was something that was also very important. Being able to see the dedicated UB student-athletes using this world class facility on a daily basis gives me confidence that the overall experience of the student-athlete is getting better every day. We’re happy and proud to contribute to the positive transformation that’s taking place within UB Athletics!”

Dr. Bob Smolinski, MD ’83 & Dr. Claudia Fosket, MD ‘85

  • "I am extremely happy to be involved with the efforts to bring big-time college athletics to Western New York. The athletic department and leadership at the University at Buffalo are on the right path towards this goal. In order to realize this potential, we need the support of individuals and the business community. I feel a sense of pride recognizing that we are on the way to having something very special happen in our town! Go Bulls!"

    Steve Ulmer- President/CEO, Davis-Ulmer

To be sure, our Shareholders Society members are changing the physical look and feel of our program, but more importantly, our members are providing our coaches and student-athletes with indispensable tangible assets that are crucial to our efforts to recruit, train and compete.
